Welcome to the department of Supercomputers and Quantum Informatics of the faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, MSU!
The department was established in 2001. The main fields of its work are: quantum computing, quantum communications, simulation of electronic and molecular nanostructures. This area of research is closely connected with quantum mechanics, biochemistry and cryptography. We develop theoretical research in quantum computing and quantum communications and the methods of numerical simulation of nanostructures, e.g. structures with elements of the size about 1–2 angstroms (1A=1/10 000 000 mm). There are the quantum dots on single atomic nucleus and electrons.
The deep connection between the theory of elementary particles and chemistry and biochemistry was well known since the discovery of the atomic structure in 19th century. But only in the end of the 20th century it was established that the application of nanostructures and quantum laws they obey can radically enhance the speed of computations and improve the safety of communications. We elaborate the elements of the nanostructures theory in the close contact with institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences where all members of the department work, first of all – with the Institute of Physics and Technology (FTIAN).
